German Topping (for German Chocolate Cake)

Total Time: 10 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup butter, cut in small pieces
  • 2/3 cup whipping cream (heavy cream)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Recipe

  • 1 in a medium saucepan, combine egg yolks, butter, whipping cream, and sugar.
  • 2 whisk constantly over medium-high heat until mixture comes to a full boil.
  • 3 remove from heat; stir in vanilla, coconut, and pecans.
  • 4 let cool, then refrigerate until mixture is thickened.
  • 5 layer between chocolate cake.
