German Sweet Chocolate Pie

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 (4 ounce) package sweet chocolate
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 2/3 cups evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cups coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie crust

Recipe

  • 1 melt butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring until blended; remove from heat and gradually blend in milk.
  • 2 mix sugar, cornstarch, & salt in lg bowl.
  • 3 add eggs & vanilla; beat well.
  • 4 gradually blend in chocolate mixture.
  • 5 pour into pie shell.
  • 6 combine pecans & coconut, sprinkle over filling.
  • 7 bake at 375 for 45 to 50 minutes or until puffed and browned.
  • 8 filling will be soft but will set while cooling.
  • 9 cool at least four hours before cutting.
  • 10 note: if top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil the last 15 minutes of baking.
