German Chocolate Pie Filling

Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins Preparation Time: 45 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3/8-3/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 4 cups stiff whipping cream
  • chocolate syrup (to color)
  • 1/3 cup coconut
  • 1/3 cup pecans

Recipe

  • 1 heat milk to scald.
  • 2 mix sugar, salt and cornstarch in a bowl,add dry ingredients to milk and stir constantly.
  • 3 add one cup of hot mixture to egg yolks and stir.
  • 4 add back to remaining milk and bring back to boiling for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • 5 cook until thick.
  • 6 add unmelted butter, vanilla, coconut, chocolate chips and pecans.
  • 7 stir until one color.
  • 8 cool shortly and put into 9-inch baked pie shell.
  • 9 *****topping*****.
  • 10 mix whipping cream with chocolate syrup to color.
  • 11 add coconut and pecans.
  • 12 pile high on pie.
  • 13 decorate with chocolate syrup.
