German Chocolate Pie

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 4 ounces german chocolate
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie crust
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut

Recipe

  • 1 in a sauce pan, melt chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring to mix well.
  • 2 remove from the heat and gradually blend in milk; set aside.
  • 3 in a bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt.
  • 4 stir in eggs and vanilla.
  • 5 gradually stir in chocolate mixture.
  • 6 pour into pastry shell.
  • 7 combine pecans and coconut; sprinkle over filling.
  • 8 bake at 375 degrees f.
  • 9 for 45-50 minutes or until puffed and browned.
  • 10 cool 4 hours.
  • 11 chill (filling will become firm as it cools).
